For nine years, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement existed on paper and nowhere else.
Article 6 is the mechanism that governs how carbon credits trade between nations — the international plumbing that allows a reforestation project in Kenya to generate credits that a Japanese manufacturer can use to meet a compliance obligation in Tokyo. In theory, it was the backbone of global carbon markets. In practice, it was paralysed. Countries couldn't agree on the rules. Every COP ended with Article 6 unresolved.
MINOT, N.D. - Veteran's Carbon Holdings (VCH), the company that collaborates directly with farmers and landowners to purchase the carbon generated by their crops, today announced the launch of the world's first scientifically quantified and 3rd party validated soil carbon certification program. Working in partnership with the BCARBON carbon registry located at Rice University, part of the Baker Institute for Public Policy, and DOVU, an Article 6-adjacent carbon credit digitization and trading platform, the new VCH program pays farmers for actual, measured, and verified carbon storage output. This approach, on track to cover from 1.5 million to 2 million acres in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and western Minnesota in 2026, is expected to deliver higher carbon payments to American farmers than prevailing model-based practices.
Fargo, ND: Veterans Carbon Holdings, Inc. (VCH) announced December 1, 2025, that its
first portfolio of science-based soil carbon credits, generated from farmers
and landowners across North Dakota and Minnesota, is now under final
review by BCarbon, with issuance expected by late December. Upon
issuance, all verified credits will be minted, tracked, and made available for
purchase on DOVU’s blockchain platform, powered by Hedera Guardian.
This milestone represents one of the first large-scale integrations of
BCarbon- verified soil carbon credits into a fully transparent, digitally
traceable blockchain marketplace.
Established in 2024, the program enables producers across the Midwest and
Western United States to generate substantial annual income by
sequestering organic carbon in agricultural soils. Under this innovative
model, 55% of all carbon credit revenue is returned directly to farmers, empowering rural economies while incentivizing climate-smart agricultural
practices.
